Devotion: The Temple of the Holy Spirit

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 6:19

“Your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you.”

There is a wonderful reality that this passage presents to us: we are the dwelling place of God. The Spirit of God lives within us. This is a hard reality for us to grasp because we cannot see Him, and many times, we do not feel an overwhelming sense of His presence.

But we can be sure that this is true, and the implications of this should help us have the confidence for whatever today brings.

That means you are never alone. God Himself is with you, empowering you, and guiding you through every moment of life.

You have constant, immediate access to God, because He is always present.

It also means your body is sacred space. We spend lots of time and money caring for our homes, and we often talk about caring for “The house of God”, referring to the church building. How much more important is it to care for our bodies, which is the home of the Spirit of the very God who created you and redeemed you through the blood of Christ.

Questions:

  1. Do I treat my body as sacred space?
  2. How does the indwelling Spirit give me power to obey?
  3. What needs to change so that my life reflects His presence within me?
