Dwelling Deeper exists to help believers move beyond surface-level engagement with Scripture into rich, transformative understanding. We believe God’s Word is not meant to be skimmed—it is meant to be dwelt in.
Our name reflects our conviction. To dwell is to remain, to abide, to stay long enough for roots to form. To go deeper is to press beneath what is obvious, to ask better questions, to trace themes, and to see how the whole counsel of God holds together. Dwelling Deeper is a teaching ministry rooted in the gospel and committed to steady, meaningful spiritual growth.
What We Do
Dwelling Deeper is primarily a teaching ministry. Through sermons, studies, written resources, and digital content, we seek to:
- Exegete the biblical text carefully and responsibly
- Explain theology clearly and accessibly
- Connect doctrine to everyday faithfulness
- Invite believers into thoughtful, reverent engagement with Scripture
We aim to combine theological substance with pastoral warmth. Our goal is not merely to inform but to cultivate spiritual maturity.
Our Invitation
Dwelling Deeper is not about accumulating information. It is about abiding in Christ.
We invite you to slow down.
To linger in the text.
To trace the roots of the gospel through every page of Scripture.
To grow steadily, not sporadically.
Spiritual maturity is rarely dramatic. It is quiet, rooted, and sustained over time.
If you desire to go beneath the surface—if you want your faith to be grounded, structured, and deeply nourished—then you are welcome here.
Let’s dwell deeper together.
Meet Justin

My name is Justin Oakes. I serve as the pastor of Temple Baptist Church in Danville, VA. I am the husband of Emma and the father of four children. My calling is pastoral ministry, but my passion is helping people grow in their relationship with God through the faithful teaching of Scripture.
I love studying the Bible. I love tracing arguments through books of the Bible, seeing how doctrine connects across testaments, and helping others understand not just what a passage says—but why it matters.
But more than that, I love watching people grow.
There is something deeply encouraging about seeing a believer begin to understand the structure of Scripture, to grasp sound doctrine, and to apply truth with confidence. That kind of growth doesn’t happen through quick inspiration—it happens through patient, thoughtful engagement with the Word.
Dwelling Deeper exists to serve that kind of growth.
