Scripture:
“But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare…” — 1 Timothy 6:9
Paul does not condemn wealth; he warns about the desire for wealth as a ruling ambition. When becoming rich becomes the goal of life, the heart is vulnerable to compromise. A snare is not obvious. It is hidden. It catches its prey because the prey is focused on something else.
The desire for riches promises freedom but often produces bondage. It pulls us toward foolish and harmful cravings that ultimately pierce the soul with sorrow. We must ask not only what we have, but what has us.
Questions for Reflection:
- What is driving my daily decisions—faithfulness or financial ambition?
- Are there compromises I have justified in pursuit of more?
- How can I guard my heart from loving money?
